From the Field
Song for Hope raised funds to enable two young mothers to start up a “hanout el hyata” (tailoring shop). The women purchased a sewing machine, table, chair, basic materials like needles and cloth, an ironing board and an iron. Now they run their own business. ACT staff visit them regularly and provide training in bookkeeping, stock taking and quality control. These two women are very grateful and say, “God bless you we love you” to all those who helped them start their business.
"It is amazing how bit by bit her life is moving forward. When she returns to Tunis she will have her 2 kids with her and the sponsorship will enable them to stay together. She will train and have child care." ... comment from ACT in Tunisia about one of the sponsored girls

In the north African country of Tunisia, women who become pregnant out of wedlock are frequently banished by their families. These stigmatized single mothers have virtually no earning power because they lack job skills. Unable to care for themselves or their children, the women become destitute. They lack a support network and sometimes are forced to abandon their children to orphanages.
