Kiva - loans that change lives

Fullstop Kiva Lending Team ... Loans that Change Lives

Give women entrepreneurs the opportunity to improve their lives through Kiva and FullstopFullstop has established a Kiva Lending Team that makes micro-loans to women entrepreneurs in the developing world who are eager to work hard at improving their lives. The loans are short term and in amounts that are insignificant to us in the developed world – minimum $25 – but substantial to recipients in the developing world. When the recipient repays the loan, the lender can loan the funds to a different entrepreneur or cash it in.

Members of Kiva Lending Teams continue lending as individuals, but they have the option to count each loan they make towards the overall impact of one of their teams. A team can have thousands of members and has the potential to lend hundreds of thousands of dollars. How exciting would that be?

Kiva is a person-to-person micro-lending website that connects socially-minded people like you with budding entrepreneurs in the developing world. Your micro-loans help a real person make strides towards economic independence and improve life for themselves, their family, and their community. The loans are usually repaid within 6 - 12 months, and when you get your loan money back, you can relend to someone else in need.

Kiva partners with existing expert microfinance institutions to gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities world-wide. Their partners, though experts in choosing qualified entrepreneurs, are usually short on funds. Through Kiva, the partners upload their entrepreneur profiles directly to the site so you can lend to them. When you do, not only do you get a unique experience connecting to a specific entrepreneur on the other side of the planet, but Kiva's microfinance partners can do more of what they do, more efficiently.

  1. Lenders like you browse profiles of entrepreneurs in need, and choose someone to lend to. When you lend, using PayPal or or credit cards, Kiva collects the funds and then passes them along to one of their microfinance partners worldwide.
  2. Kiva's microfinance partners distribute the loan funds to the selected entrepreneur. Often, their partners also provide training and other assistance to maximize the entrepreneur's chances of success.
  3. Over time, the entrepreneur repays their loan. Repayment and other updates are posted on Kiva and emailed to lenders who wish to receive them.
  4. When lenders get their money back, they can re-lend to someone else in need, donate their funds to Kiva (to cover operational expenses), or withdraw their funds.
